Are you one of them, Mr God ?

19 years ago, a woman prayed to you, Mr God. She may have prayed for her future, maybe for her children..maybe for the winning numbers of the state lottery. I don't know..that's between you and her. But I find it odd that you hold a grudge even today. You are actually punishing her for doing "the unthinkable"..believing in you !! You've let this be known to the people via your main mode of communication..nope, not the Hutch Puppy, but the super pious astrologers of Kerala. Yes, we all know the strength of their beads.
Your dutiful messenger no doubt just relayed your sms to the world, informing the public that you were pissed and your aura was gone with the wind because she dared to do the unthinkable.. touch an idol of you.
In case you're confused which version of your multiple OS I'm referring to, it's the Sabarimala incident where an actress claimed to have touched your idol while worshipping you. The news channels tell of how the only way you can be appeased is by religious prayers for 2 years, visits by the designated pujaris to many temples throughout Kerala, free food to all devotees etc. Well, you're the man, so I guess what you sms'd that astrologer in his beads is binding.. but I don't get it. You're supposed to be compassionate. You're supposed to be forgiving. Hell (oops, wrong curse..excusi ) this isn't even a forgiving matter really. A lady touched the feet of your idol. From your heavenly abode, I'm sure you know how many of us do that to your statues daily, in temples and at home..even if it is to Lord Ayappa, a bramhachari. I know they pray for good things..all of them can't be like me asking for a radiology seat with Amisha Patel on a ribbon.. they are good people praying selflessly cause they love you. So how can you be angry at her ? How can your aura be twisted by a woman praying to you 19 years ago ? Are women that bad for you ? I mean, you really mustn't be setting such an example in a country like this where they're struggling as it is to assert themselves.
The more I think about it, the more I see glimpses of your intolerance now.. honour killings, the recent Da Vinci furore just cause they dared to believe God could love.. what exactly is the message you're sending to the world right now ? As a kid reading about the 4 yugas, I always imagined it was a game of chess.. you won 3, the devils ( asuras back then for me) won the last..hence they got the last one- the kaliyuga. Now, I admit I'm spooked. Cause we're well and truly into it and there's a lot of situations of intolerance coming through here, Sir/ Madam.
I don't know this actress.. I probably never saw a single movie of hers even while channel surfing ( umm, speaking of which, could I ave Star World again - i kinda miss Scrubs).Anyway, I feel sorry for her. She prayed to you. She believed in you. She believed she was doing the right thing when she read the newspaper article telling that you were annoyed cause some lady had touched you and went ahead and faxed it in to clear the doubts.. Now her effigies are being kabab-ified out here. I like to believe in the God of my childhood..who'd appear when people pray on mountain tops and say"3 wishes or your money back" or some such.I like to believe in the God that forgives great sins when there is true remorse and punishes evil doers..real evil doers like paedophiles, murderers, restaurants charging 500 bucks for a plate of paneer masala ( rot in hell!!!)
It isn't right. You really are losing those who believe in you and you know how the numbers stand right now out here on Earth so I just have to ask..Is believing your idol to be sacred really that big a sin , Mr God ? Are you a sexist too, Mr God ?
More importantly, Are you really so out of reach from us ?

Yours in anticipation
Roshan

Well, to start with, I ve never been very comfortable with the idea of idol worship. When we are taught that God is omnipresent and omnipotent and al that, why do we travel miles and miles to reach some place just so that we can worship the idol? I would rather believe in God being present in all our hearts.
But religion is a complex thing. What is right o some might just be too offensive to someother. So I guess, its not my cup of tea! I d rather believe my version and keep my mouth tightly shut.

Good point. But I wonder..maybe it's our right to challenge what we believe is wrong..maybe more people should stand up when you know there's absurdity lurking around.

i agree with leya... moreover, it bewilders me to see that women are to date looked upon with suspicious eyes when it comes to religion... and ALL religions have such concepts where somehow, women are considered impure! hell, i can't understand why? the sacred feminine just seems to be a myth!

what can I say? I have always believed in equality..but I honestly dont believe it exists. There will always be people at the helm of any religion who refuse to grant women the equality they deserve.
Heck, so many of the old Hindu tales tell of how the Hindu trinity were humbled by their wives might/brains.. too bad that doesnt transalate to the fanatics
