Guilty Pleasures - Which movies do you enjoy watching over and over? #Barathon

This year's Blog Marathon by Blog-A-Rhythm is themed around 'Seven' so I figured I would make lists of seven for the next seven posts. For today's list, I chose to go with Hollywood movies that I can sit and watch over and over when they come on television.

Everyone has their own favourites so this is a purely subjective list.

  • The Thomas Crown affair - I find the romance between Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo so endearing. They have great chemistry and the final half an hour is an absolute delight.
  • Avengers - the movie that seemed impossible to envision a decade ago was made real with years of careful character building. Even still, the ensemble movie worked excellently, with over half a dozen 'OMG' moments! Tony Stark suiting up mid-air after being thrown off the building, Bruce Banner walking nonchalantly up to the big monster before he turns into the Hulk... !! Ah, goosebumps!
  • Love Actually - such a finely written romantic movie. 6 different love stories all intertwined perfectly.
  • Con Air - Yes, there is a Nicholas Cage movie in this list! Don't judge me. This was again such an iconic action movie with hilarious moments brilliantly intertwined with the action. And Trisha Yearwood's beautiful song 'How do I Live' as the bookmarks on either end of the movie was perfect.
  • Mamma Mia - Such a fun guilty pleasure. A sinfully happy movie filled with the best songs of ABBA and shot beautifully off the coast of Greece with the actors doing great renditions of the original. What more can one ask for?
I still say that the movie version of 'Our Last Summer' sung by Colin Firth, Pierce Brosnan et al is better than the original version!
  • You don't mess with the Zohan - I could watch this movie over and over. Spoof, satire, political movie (!) - call it what you want but the tale of the Zohan and the cultural stereotypes here work brilliantly. Who would have thought Adam Sandler would beat so many more mature actors to make this list, eh!
  • Runaway Jury - One of the most underrated legal thrillers of all time, if you ask me. Such a brilliant star cast (Gene Hackman, Dustin Hoffman, John Cusack, Rachel Weisz) in a perfect cat-and-mouse game as three different teams try to influence the jury of a very infuential case.

Just missed the list:

  • A Few Good Men
  • Terminator 2
  • Star Trek (2009)
  • Guardians of the Galaxy
What about you? Which movies have you rewatched every time you saw it playing on television? Which movies would have made your list?

  9. The only ones I've watched, and can watch over and over again, are Mamma Mia and Love Actually. I watched Avengers with the children and halfway into the film I was still trying to figure out the good guys from the bad! I do have a lot of other go to movies though - Notting Hill is right up there and You've Got Mail, Pride and Prejudice, Bridget Jones, The Holiday.. it's a long list.
