Season 2 of Swine Flu ?

Theyyy're backkkk.
I seem to remember the whole controversy that came up after the swine flu epi/pandemic erupted last year in Pune. People said it was hyped- much ado about nothing to paraphrase the famous bard . They said it's just a normal flu and would soon go away. They worried that the 'enforced shut down' would unnecessarily interfere with their jobs. And when the newspapers found better things for page 3, they stood justified holding that paper as proof that 'not in paper = not existing anymore.'

Hate to break it to you all but reality isn't a newspaper. The news about swine flu died but the virus never did. The news died because there were 'better' things to report : from swamis sexcapades to actresses bare backs driving right wing moral groups horny to cricket highs and garlands costlier than Ferraris.

As any of the hospitals treating the disease will tell you, it's still been going on. And now, much like the Tv show Spartacus, it's Second season is already underway even before the first season has ended.
Of course, Spartacus gives us a heady mix of blood, sex & strained morals which bear repeat viewing. Swine flu gives no such fun breaks. Young and old suffer and those who have good immunity perhaps unwittingly end up as carriers to others.
But with time, the virus has mutated in response to our treatment strategies too...
I'd like to point out 2 important observations that I and my colleagues noted recently - Where earlier it enjoyed cold weathers, now it seems to like summer too. More importantly, it seems more infectious now, but appears to have a less severe symptoms and course. Is that good or bad, you decide...

Of course, these are not documented or proven facts. These are pure observations.

How do I know all this? I ought to. I'm in the isolation ward right now having come swine flu positive this week. And even as I watch, 8 out of 8 tested colleagues have come positive with many more developing symptoms with each passing day.

Season 2 of Swine Flu maybe just beginning. Let's hope there aren't too many unpleasant surprises. Take care, you all.
Sincerely. Godspeed.

  3. How true the theory - 'not in paper = not existing anymore'

And hope season 2 remains a low key affair and it will not become a blockbuster like last year.

    Cheers!
