WOH LAMHE ****
2006 has given Bollywood a lot. In the form of the thinker's film - Rang De Basanti. Comedy had Lage Raho Munnabhai.Superhero had Krishh. Phenomenonal Waste of cash had KANK. Surprisingly, romance wasn't that well portayed ( in Bollywood!! ) this year..until now, that is.
Woh Lamhe wins hands down as far as romantic movies of 2006 go. There is a maturity in this film that other directors really should take a leaf out of. This is an amazingly touching movie of love - and the dark side of our lives.
You want a storyline ? A small time director concocts a smart scheme to fool an big actress into acting in his film. His life will never be the same ever again. That's all that needs to be told. The Gangster duo - Kangana and Shiney are supremely talented and this movie gives both ample opportunities to showcase it to the world. There are so many moments that linger in the mind long after the movie is over. You feel sorry for the characters its based on - Parveen Babi and Mahesh Bhatt ; what they went through and the tragedy they could not forsee. Personally, I'm not much of a tragedy movie fan, but this is one I recommend because it takes the time to showcase what was most important to both the individuals - their moments of love.
Drawbacks - well, this movie is rated 'A' and there is valid cause for it - the central theme aside, the film deals with rape and abuse.. and quite brutally too. So you may not wanna take your kids along for this ride.
P.S. It's been a while since I've seen girls come out of a movie theatre teary eyed ( Kal Ho na Ho was the last time, though some recent Hindi comedies did make ME cry !!) Eagerly awaiting the Bhatt camp's next venture.
