Oceans and decades apart

I recently met two people ( separately ) who'd been in a relationship a long time ago.

He : Is she doing well ?
Me : Yes.
He : Is she happy ?
Me : Yes.
He : That's great. She's a lovely person. She deserves it. It feels good hearing that.

She : Is he doing well ?
Me : No.
She : Is he ok ?
Me : No.
She : Damn. That's so sad. He's a great guy. He doesn't deserve it. I'll pray for him.

I recall their breakup was a bitter one. They had not been in touch for over a decade. And yet they had it in them to remember the other fondly and genuinely rejoice in their happiness or feel sad at the other's pain.

I wish more people were like this. It's a quality I don't see anymore.

Let me know what you think.

  1. But it is always like that-when you love a person once deeply and with your all, no matter how badly he screws up, you can never really wish ill for him-NEVER! If you did then it was just a selfish relationship...

I guess in today's generation where relationships last a few months and the partners move on, there is a sense of detachment and indifference...but even then, how can a heart that once loved differentiate?

  2. But then, isn't that the check for true emotions - whether friendship or love? I mean if you were genuinely in love with someone, you could never thinkk or wish badly for that person, right?

  3. Thats a proof of a genuine relationship they had , a decade ago. After reading this I really feel sad they broke up, for whatever reason. Such people should actually be together. Because even after a decade the spark of care they once had for each other prevails, and both of them show a quality of broad mindedness and big hearts.

  4. past is always remembered fondly, otherwise if they felt like that why did they break up?

  5. Put across so brilliantly, these kind of true emotions are hard to find....God bless the two wonderful souls.

  6. Suruchi, there was definite anger I guess during the breakup..but time is a good healer.. And then, you have the happy memories to fall back on, right ? I guess thats the case. And you're rt..I dont see much of these kind of feelings in todays gen..people who feel this way are called 'old fashioned'... love feels a lot less purer these days, if you get what I mean.

  7. Nirvana, it is really. Being able to leave aside the past and think nicely of the person later on even when not in touch anymore.

Anita, sigh... my sentiments exactly. But all involved have moved on. They have their own married lives and families to look after.

  8. Renu, cant comment on the reasons behind their breakup.. but I guess somewhere they both grew up and realised what a good time they once used to have and are thankful for the memory.

Prats, sadly yes..they do seem to be hard to find.

    Shalini, welcome back.. Thanks :)

    Nilu, thanks.

Rohan, sadly I wish that were true... but sometimes bad memories also jut in... guess we have to find the balance.

  14. It is indeed a rare quality. Broken relationships always give me this numb feeling. I wonder how destiny brings and separates people.

You said a lot in less words. Great thought!

  15. Harman, hmm.. a lot of truth to that, I must admit.

Saru, I feel sad watching it from the outside. I can only imagine what it feels like for those within the relationship.

  16. Oh my heart aches...
Clearly even thought the relationship had no destination, the moments spent together were worthy enough I see.

  18. u know how it is.. a relationship ends and no matter how bitter the note was...as time passes each one realizes that nothing in this world is unforgivable and once they do then what remains is gr8 memories... maybe this is also what we call, The Detached Attachment...

Ten yrs later when we look back on issues which we give so much importance now[esp things which involve negetivity]....its like what a waste of time & energy.
