Know Your Show: Brooklyn Nine-Nine #AtoZChallenge

This post is part of my #A2ZChallenge for April 2016 where my theme is TV Sitcoms. For the letter B, I choose Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Premise:

The springy comedy sitcom follows the nutty New York Police Department of Brooklyn as they stumble and save the day, in spite of themselves.

10 Reasons you will love Brooklyn Nine-Nine:

1) Unlike so many popular shows which started off slow and unsure, Brooklyn Nine Nine entered the field running at full speed. From the very first episode, you knew you had a hit on your hands.

2) Standard of comedy is young, fresh and keeps you giggling constantly with one non-stop joke after another.

3) For those of you who enjoyed Tina Fey's 30 Rock, this show maintains the same style of unabashed silliness, focusing on the nuttiness of each individual rather than reverting to sex jokes and puns.

4) Andy Samberg as Detective Jake Peralta went on to deservedly win the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a TV Musical/Comedy in 2014. Brooklyn Nine-Nine won for Best TV Comedy the same year.

5) But it isn't a one man show (here's looking at you, Two and a half men). The laughter comes off the amazing chemistry between all the characters that make up the detective squad.

6) Andre Braugher is superb as the straight faced, gay Captain who the staff constantly yearns to impress.

7) Impressing him would be hard when you have Terry Crews as the beefy muscular Sergeant who lets everyone run over him, Joe Truglio & Melissa Fumero as type A detectives who constantly overreach while trying to impress Jake and the Captain respectively & a superbly cast snarky Chelsea Peretti as an administrator who couldn't care less unless she is the topic of discussion.

8) The show is extremely re-watchable with minimal continuity issues, which is a huge plus.

9) It should have been tough to make a comedy show focused around crimes and policemen. But this show nails it by focusing on the eccentricities of each individual character rather than any violence.

10) Personal opinion: 3 seasons in and there has hardly ever been a bad episode where you worried that the show was starting to decline in quality. I recommend Brooklyn Nine-Nine to everyone seeking out a good new show.

If aliens were to judge us based solely upon this show:

They would return back to their home planet convinced that every Earthling was mad as a hatter. They would have changed their inter-galactic ringtone to the theme song of Brooklyn Nine Nine, of course. I mean, Which self-respecting alien, wouldn't?

    Trivia:

This isn't the first time Andre Braugher has been a Captain. He was also the Captain of the ill fated ship, Poseidon in the 2008 movie of the same name. At times when he watches his crew at the Nine-Nine exasperatedly, you get the feeling he wishes he was back in that ship awaiting the 100 foot wave once more.
