Ten to One : Get to Know Me Better

Dr Roshan Radhakrishnan

Back when I started blogging in 2005, an easy way to find something to write on was to take up tags featuring questions you needed to answer. In addition to getting you back into 'writing mode', it also helped you open up about what was weighing on your mind.
For me today, that would be via Shalini's tag of "Ten to One in My Life"  where we answer 55 questions about ourselves as we count down from 10 to 1.

Ten How’s!

How did you get one of your scars?

As a kid, I was fielding in a silly mid-on position while playing cricket. Turns out I was a little "too silly" mid-on and the swing of the batsman's bat hit me smack on my head, leaving a permanent mark on my eye brow.
How did you celebrate your last birthday? Like a kid. I brought sweets for my department co-workers and nursing staff and also for those in my bus. Had a surprise cake courtesy a cousin and his family.
How are you feeling at this moment? Unsure of myself. A lot of things seem to have gone wrong recently.
How did your night go last? I binge watched Stranger Things till 2 am. Then fell asleep finally.
How did you do in high school? Pretty good. Good grades. First love. Excellent friends.
How did you get the shirt you are wearing? Bought it online via Redwolf. It has a silhouette of Scooby and Shaggy being stalked by one of those cartoon monsters. I love their shirts not just because they are unique but also because they are top notch quality, good value for money and best of all, fit me well considering my XXL chubby size.

How often do you see your best friends? It has been awhile.
How much money did you spend last month? A lot. More than 3/4 th of my salary, I reckon. There were lots of expenses and gifts and stuff.
How old do you want to be when you get married? I'm the wrong person to answer this at so many levels :)
How old will you be at your next birthday? A lot younger than the white hairs on my sideburns suggest.

9 What’s!

Your mother’s name? Won't that help in online passwords?
What did you do last weekend? As I had for nearly 75% of my weekends this year, I did a 54 hour continuous shift in my hospital. My last one though.
What is the most important part of your life? Hope.
What would you rather be doing? Do we get paid to binge watch television sitcoms and guzzle through novels?
What did you last cry over? In recent years, I have turned to mush. I used to be so stoic earlier, never showing sorrow even if I was torn inside. Now, I struggle to stop the tears. Anyway, last cry? That would be while watching Hawkeye Pierce say goodbye to his roommate/best friend BJ Hunnicut during the last moments of the M*A*S*H* finale. Heaven alone knows how the American audience stopped the waterworks back when it was aired live in 1983.

Just seeing them all together in this picture makes me miss them again

What always makes you feel better when you’re upset? Helping someone else. Takes my mind of my own pain for a brief while at least.
What’s the most important thing you look for in a significant other? Honesty, open mindedness, a sense of humour.
What did you have for breakfast? An Omelette.

8 You’s!

Have you ever liked someone who had a girlfriend/boyfriend? Yes. Many times.
Have you ever had your heart broken? Yes. Many times.
Have you ever been out of the country? Yes. Many times... ah, who am I kidding? My passport has not been stamped this century.
Have you ever done something outrageously dumb? Yes. Many times.
Have you ever been backstabbed by a friend? Yes. A few times.
Have you ever had sex on the beach? Only the drink. Was not a fan.
Have you ever read an entire book in a day? Yes. Many times.

7 Who’s!

Who was the last person you saw? My parents.
Who was the last person you texted? An online friend.
Who was the last person you hung out with? Some online friends from a Facebook foodie group Mom and I are a part of came over for lunch.
Who was the last person to call you? I see a missed call from a friend from a long time and a far away land, now that you ask.
Who did you last hug? I don't remember. I honestly don't remember. That's sad.
Who is the last person who texted you? Same online friend as earlier. That is how conversations work.
Who is the last person you said, “I Love You” to? A plate of chicken biryani. Oh wait, you said person!

6 Where’s!

Where do your best friends live? Some in Kerala, some in Mumbai, some in Bangalore.
Where did you last go? To the hospital... there was an emergency at home that required some attention.
Where did you last hang out? The casualty at the hospital?
Where did you go to school? Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Kannur. Lovely place. Highly recommended, always. Some of the best years of my life were there.
Where is your favorite place to be? I haven't found it yet.
Where did you sleep last night? At home.

5 Do’s!

Do you think anyone likes you? Besides my dog? Yes.
Do you ever wish you were someone else? Besides my dog? Yes.
Do you know the muffin man? I know it is some sort of nursery rhyme.
Does the future scare you? Yes.
Do your parents know about your blog? Yes. Mom shares all my posts. Her 100 friends on Facebook provide more likes than my 1500 friends... (he said, staring accusingly at his friends)

4 Why’s!

Why are you best friends with your best friend? We have shared a lifetime of memories - supreme highs and heartbreaking lows - together.
Why did you get into blogging? To release the thoughts in my head.
Why did your parents give you the name you have? Darned if I know.
Why are you doing this survey? I have been out of blogging for a long time. A tag like this was needed to give me an easy way to get back in.

3 Ifs!

If you could have one super power what could it be? To have the power to make people happy, no matter how much they resist it and try to wallow in their sorrows.
If you could go back in one time and change one thing, would you? Yes, no doubt.
If you were stranded on a deserted island and could bring one thing, what would you bring? A speedboat with a full tank and loaded fridge.

2 Would you ever?

Would you ever get back together if one of your ex’s ever asked you? No. A few because I do not deserve that kind of torture again. One because she always deserved someone better than me.
Would you ever shave your head to save someone you love? Give me a few months and maybe 6 haircuts more. Don't think there will be a need for shaving anymore :(

1 last question!

Are you happy with your life right now? No. I frankly have never been this insecure in a long time. A lot of things have fallen out of place so close together and it can be exhausting.

Well, that was me. If you want to pick up this tag, just copy the above set of questions and add your answers in your own blog. And please don't forget to share your post with me in my comments section so I can check out your answers too.

I am linking this to WriteTribe's #writingwednesdays tag.
